Saint Motel Album Art The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Pt. 1

Saint Motel - The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Pt. 1 EP (2019)

Star Rating: 5/5

Tracks: 5

Overview

Saint Motel is a playful indie-pop band that wants you to dance. Their breakthrough hit "My Type" from their 2014 EP (of the same name) catapulted them into stardom as purveyors of bite-size nostalgic hits that have enough depth to keep you coming back again and again.

In October 2019 they released another fresh reminder that they're as capable as ever. The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Pt. 1 is a nod to lead singer A. J. Jackson's experience composing music for commercials and his film school education.

Top Tracks & Takeaways

The EP starts off right with "Old Soul", which begins slowly and then ramps up into a heavy and emotional tune with a yearning melody. The band keeps it simple with four chords hits, but they somehow continue to make them slightly unique and ever more interesting.

Two other standout tracks on this EP are "Sisters" and "Diane Mozart".

What we liked

The instrumentation is tight and the production very solid.

Not so much...

"Van Horn" is a fun song, but is also more of a party sing-along than anything else. Even so, we like how Sain Motel explores new beats and textures.

Conclusion

Overall we are forced to award Saint Motel's new EP a 5 out of 5 stars for building on their previous work, yet still creating fantastic tunes. Keep it going, guys!
